"If we consider the unblushing promises of reward and the staggering nature of the rewards promised in the Gospels, it would seem that our Lord finds our desires not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased."
~C. S. Lewis in The Weight of Glory.

Ooooh! Good quote! Lewis always makes us think.
ReplyDeleteSuch a thoughtful quote...and a lovely photo!
ReplyDeleteThank you!

...we are far too easily pleased. Isn't it the truth.
ReplyDeleteI was blessed by your quote from C.S.Lewis. I've never read his book, I'll have to look it up. Just now I am reading "The Glad Surrender," by Elizabeth Elliot. It goes beyond the surface for sure. ....and I am "growing" in Christ as I read and let the truths she presents take hold in my heart.....your blog is special, I am glad I came across it, hope you'll come visit mine some time.
ReplyDeleteThank you, everyone. :-)
ReplyDeleteMaggie Ann: Elisabeth Elliot is one of my favorite authors, and I've spent many convicting minutes reading that same book. ;-) Other excellent titles by EE you may want to check out are: Keep A Quiet Heart, Secure in the Everlasting Arms and Let Me Be a Woman. She also has a website (link is in my sidebar) with archives containing years of her writings.
If you've never read any of C.S. Lewis' works, I commend to you Mere Christianity to start. Thank you for visiting my blog. I hope to see you again! :-)
