Hola, Amigos!

We've completed our geography study of Mexico a little smarter and a lot heavier.

In addition to the wonderful core books in the GTG guide, we thoroughly enjoyed reading
Hill of Fire by Thomas P. Lewis. It's a fascinating true story about a Mexican farmer who witnessed the creation of a volcano in the middle of his cornfield. The kids wanted to learn more about volcanoes, so we headed to the library for science books and dvds to satisfy their curiosity.

A blurb in the book also mentioned the farmer having cinnamon tea. That sounded like a splendid idea for an autumn day. At the market, we were delighted to find
Cinnamon Apple Spice Tea! Back home, we put on the kettle and took out our china teacups. Now what should we serve with the tea? Doesn't chocolate come from Mexico? Of course, aha, of course! What an excellent reason to eat brownies. ;-)

The rest of the week was more of the same: reading, cooking and eating.

Left to right: tortilla chips, guacamole, rice, Daniel, grilled beef fajitas, Jonathan, tortillas, sauteed bell peppers and onions, Elizabeth, beans.

We enjoyed chicken enchiladas on another night; and I also discovered a terrific recipe for making flan in the crockpot. Most of these recipes can be found here:
Our Favorite Recipes.

I love Mexican food. By Friday, however, I was relieved Alan was taking us out to eat sushi. There's no guilt eating sushi!

Adios, Mexico. Next stop: South America.

"...they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, praising God..." Acts 2:46b-47a.

  4. Mmm, sushi! We can't go out for sushi when we're "really hungry"- between Zorak and the boys, they can eat a LOT of sushi.

    LOVE the picture! What fun!

Enjoy South America! You know, Argentina, particularly the beef from Argentina, might be a good study...

Yummm! Hubby added salsa to the borsch the other night and dubbed it Ukr-Mex Fusion Cuisine. We're having burritos tonight (made with armenian lavash instead of tortillas.)

Enjoy your "trip" to South America!
