A Conversation on Marriage

During our Bible time this morning we read the wonderful story in Genesis 24 about Abraham's servant and his trip to a far away land to find a bride for Isaac. It's a wonderful portrayal of God's faithfulness in bringing two people together for marriage if they seek His guidance. Of the many prayers I pray for our children, at the top of the list are for godly spouses and that they would wait on the Lord for His perfect timing.

Someone posted these questions on the Sonlight boards a while back. I thought it would be interesting to hear Jonathan's thoughts on marriage.

Q: How do you decide who to marry?
A: By who Jesus tells you.

Q: What is the right age to get married?
A: I don't know.

Q: How can a stranger tell if two people are married?
A: They stay together.

Q: What do you think your Mom and Dad have in common?
A: Being my parents.

Q: What do most people do on a date?
A: Go to a Bible study.

Q: What would you do on a first date that was turning sour?
A: Ask Jesus to help it not turn sour.

Q: When is it okay to kiss someone?
A: When you're married. On the lips.

Q: How would the world be different if people didn't get married?
A: You would only have a mother or only just a father.

His answers warmed my heart. I sure hope they remain the same in, oh, about 14 years or so! ;-)

"And the Lord God said, 'It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.'" Genesis 2:18

  1. Oh, I like his answer about what two people do on a date! Seriously, I think the best way for two people to get to know one another, really see what the other is made of, is to serve together, or attend a bible study. I pray, too, that he will fell this way until the time he is ready to share his life with someone.

  2. The proper seeds are planted in his young and tender heart. I pray they will grow strong, healthy and firm as Jonathan matures.

  3. Oh, Linda, those were precious answers!

We, too, have talked with the boys about "the" woman God has ordained for each of them to find, as well as about being "the" men God wants them to be. James asked once, "How will I know? What will she be like?" That led to some great scripture reading and finding out what attributes she will have as well as what God wants for the boys to embody. Such a positive outlook. Such promise.

    Thanks for sharing these!
