It's Still Wiggling

We were at the pediatrician's for the kids' yearly checkup. Jonathan announced that his tooth was wiggling.

The doctor said, "Oh!! Guess what happens when you lose a tooth?"

Elizabeth jumped up and down, "You get money!" (Her friend Julia told her this.)

The doc said, "Yes, but what comes before that? The tooth fairy! And guess what she gives you? Jonathan, I have to clue you in. I'm going to say it really loud cuz Mom is sitting right here. Ready, Jonathan?"

Jonathan giggled and nodded.

Doc yelled, "TWENTY BUCKS FOR THE FIRST TOOTH AND TEN BUCKS FOR EVERY TOOTH THEREAFTER!"

Jonathan fell over with laughter, checking my face to see if that was true. I had previously told him that we would have a Goodbye Tooth Celebration (totally made up on on the spot) when it came out. No mention of you-know-who. Now the doctor tells him THIS!

What happened to the good old days when it used to be a quarter? And what happened to doctors who stuck to practicing medicine instead of giving financial advice to budding entrepreneurs? :-)

"A merry heart does good, like medicine, but a broken spirit dries the bones." Proverbs 17:22
