A Special Young Artist

We went to a cool Christmas Boutique yesterday. All of the craft items were made and sold by homeschool students. Entrepreneurship and creativity were in full force. Most of the items were selling in the .50-$3.00 range, with none over $10.00. I gave each of the kids a little spending money, and semi-free-reign on what they could buy.

Jonathan bought a mini marshmallow shooter.

Elizabeth chose a nativity necklace.

Daniel decided on a gingerbread man.

I had not planned on buying anything myself. But then I came across a 13 year old boy named Hunter who was selling Christmas cards featuring his artwork. They were absolutely beautiful. He told me that he had created them as
a fundraiser for an organization called the National Childhood Cancer Foundation. When I asked him how he had gotten involved with the group, Hunter replied quietly, "I had cancer when I was younger." He was diagnosed at age four with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and is now in remission.

Hunter created this card at age 11:

His design for this year's card:

Not only was I impressed with his artwork, I was also touched by his humble spirit as he explained, "This one is of Joseph and Mary traveling with the baby Jesus." That did it; I couldn't leave without buying a box of Hunter's cards.

You never know when the Lord will touch your heart. He might even do it at a craft fair.

"Jesus said, 'Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven.'" Matthew 19:14

  1. What beautiful art work, Linda. No wonder you bought them. What a cool idea. There must be a good number of hs students in order to put on a craft show with merchandise made especially by them.

  2. I agree. These cards are beautiful! A talented a young man. I am especially drawn to the lion.

The mini marshmallow shooter sounds like fun!

  3. What a blessing! This boy has learned the importance of using our gifts for the Lord. Wow. I'd have bought a box, too, but they'd be hard to send off. I would want to keep them!

LOVE the marshmallow shooter! PVC pipes are a perennial favorite around here. If you want, I'll share our directions for making a dino-pult (for flinging the little box 'o dinosaurs!)

    And what a lovely necklace!

The whole experience sounds like such fun!

  4. Well, the marshmallow shooter has now been turned into a lego-army man-paper wad-whatever you can find-shooter! :-)

I was thinking of framing one of the cards and using it as a Christmas decoration each year.

Dy, Jonathan would LOVE the dino-pult directions!
