During my quiet time today I spent some time praying and asking the Lord to give me wisdom in different areas of my life.
One of the areas I prayed about was what to do for Bible reading. In previous years I have followed different schedules to read the Bible through in a year, each year choosing a different translation. The last two years, I decided instead to camp out in different books of the Bible for various lengths of time. I also did a few character studies.
This year, I'm back to reading through the Bible. I'm following the schedule from Discipleship Journal. I like it because it gives you five free days a month in case you fall behind or want to go on rabbit trails, which I'm prone to do. I also like it that John Piper, one of my favorite pastor/authors, has chosen the same plan.
I'll be reading mainly from the ESV and Amplified versions this year.
I mentioned it to Jonathan, who decided he would follow the same plan. Daniel came up to me after dinner and requested a printout too, so it is turning into a family affair. :-)
