Happy New Year!

or, as the Japanese say it, Akemashite Omedetou Gozaimasu!

If you haven't had your traditional bowl of Ozoni yet, here's some for your viewing pleasure.

For the uninitiated, Ozoni is the first meal Japanese traditionally eat in the New Year. It is a soup made with various ingredients, the most important being rice cakes.

This is the first year since we've been married that I did not make the Ozoni. I am still recovering and can't stand for long periods of time. I spoke to Grandma H. last night and told her Alan would be making it with my coaching.

She sounded doubtful. "Are you sure he can do it?" She's a stickler for authenticity.

I replied, "Yes, he'll do a great job."

And he did. There are no leftovers. I think even Alan was suprised by how yummy it turned out. :-)

Surprise someone this year, especially yourself.

"Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness And rivers in the desert." Isaiah 43:19
