Update on Mega Memory Challenge

Last month we joined the Mega Memory Challenge with the goal of memorizing Psalm 139 and the poem Joy and Peace in Believing.

I wish I could say that I was 100% consistent in practicing with the kids each day. I wish I could say that we have memorized both the passage and the poem perfectly.

But we weren't, and we didn't.

However, I can say that we did practice both pieces a lot more than if we had not joined the challenge. I can also say that memorizing Scripture is always a worthwhile endeavor because it causes us to meditate on what the words really mean, and allows those words seep into our hearts.

We are almost there in nailing Psalm 139. The kids can recite most of it without help. I still have to check my Bible, but old age is my excuse. ;-)

The poem has been harder for the kids because of the language, but they are being troopers. Elizabeth has been practicing the poem on her own and has gotten farther than anyone else.

I am hoping that with consistent practice we will have both down cold by the end of February. Whether we meet that goal or not, memorizing Scripture will continue to be a joy and delight for us in the months and years ahead.

"The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; the precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes." Psalm 119:7-8

  1. That's a long psalm, Linda! I'm impressed--and like you, by the end of the month I didn't meet my goal but still feel like I've managed to do more than I ever would have if I hadn't challenged myself. Every verse is more than I would have memorized otherwise. I'm so glad you jumped in with your family--what a treat to share the month with you!
