Fire Update

It's been another crazy day keeping an eye on the wildfire. We are so thankful for the phone calls, emails, prayer chains and blog posts demonstrating concern for our family and the other residents. Most of all, thank you for praying! We could really feel your prayers!

At the moment things are looking much better. Though the fire has burned 6,500 acres and is only 10% contained, it has moved away from the homes. Previously evacuated residents were allowed to return this afternoon with the caution to be ready in case the fire moves close again. No homes were burned and no fatalities were reported. Praise the Lord!

When we woke up this morning, it was a scary sight to see the nearby hill looking like this:

5:30 am

There were eight or more fire helicopters hovering in our area. They worked all morning and did an awesome job keeping that section of the fire from spreading. By late afternoon the hill looked like this:

3:30 pm (note the orange/brown smoke coming from the main fire)

The windstorms that were expected turned out to be mild due to a mysterious high pressure system which confronted the wind head on and prevented major gusts. Thank You, Lord!

The kids have been remarkably calm. God has given them His peace. :-) We had school, read aloud books, did the laundry and kept as much of our normal routine as possible.

The fire is expected to be fully contained by February 11th. That's four more days. We still have our bags packed.

We appreciate your continued prayers!

"The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold." Psalm 18:2

  1. I didn't turn my computer on all that day. Thinking you were on the other side of the freeway, I assumed you weren't affected at all. I guess I have my north county geography wrong! I'm glad it's "so far, so good" and this morning, I guess it was, no homes were affected. Praise God, indeed! I'm glad you are all ok.
