The Life of a Rose

Nothing like homegrown roses. Especially fragrant English and antique roses. These photos were taken in our garden a few years ago of Perdita, a David Austin rose. It was the most incredible rose--shades of pink and apricot and the most heavenly fragrance.

Sadly, I moved the bushes to the backyard and they didn't thrive there. I hope to one day plant another Perdita. I have fond memories of her blooms gracing our home.

The poem is my own.

The Life of a Rose

Bud
I hint at the promise
of things to come
heavenly drops cascade
showering me in
wondrous expectation

Unfurl
With a little shyness
I slowly unveil my
mysteries petal by petal
please don't break
my delicate heart

Bloom
I am fully open
come near and
breathe deeply
my life is fleeting
I give it all to you

"The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever." Isaiah 40:8
