Just Keep Peddling

Sometimes, in God's grace, we get to see glimpses of the man a son will become. The other day we were blessed to witness a coach and encourager in Jonathan.

Jonathan had asked Daniel if he would like to learn how to ride a big boy bike. Daniel, always wanting to emulate his older brother, said "Yes!" I thought they were just kidding around until I looked out the window while doing dishes and saw Jonathan patiently pushing Daniel around on his old two wheeler, not the toddler bike with the training wheels. The coach kept up a steady stream of encouraging chatter, and the student had a determined look on his face.

Daniel was a little wobbly, and there were a few crashes (one into a rose bush--ouch!), but overall he was doing great. They were doing so well as a team that I didn't want to intervene and spoil their synergy.

Soon Daniel was begging Alan to remove the training wheels off his toddler bike. Alan was somewhat hesitant. "Are you sure, Daniel?" "Yes, Daddy! Jonathan taught me how to ride!" His grin was a mile long. Alan took off the training wheels.

Before long, he was riding his two wheeler with ease and delight. Around and around the patio he went, reveling in conquering the challenge, not wanting to stop!

Just keep peddling, just keep peddling, just keep peddling...

"Look Mommy!" "No training wheels!"

The proud coach and student.

Daniel's journal entry.

A fine day for our two boys!

"Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, for he has no one to help him up." Ecclesiastes 4:9-10
