Brickmasters, Unite!

Jonathan bounded out of bed this morning and reminded me that it's only four more days until his birthday. As if I could forget; he's reminded us every day for the last, oh, three months. And how can I forget that day, seven years ago, when he and I went through a 22-hour labor before his dramatic entry into the world. Yes, October 16th will forever be engraved in my mind and stretch marks.

As a surprise, we're waking up super early Saturday morning and taking him to the Miramar Air Show. I don't know who will be more excited, Jonathan or Alan. The rest of us will try to keep up. Do we need to bring ear plugs?

The only thing Jonathan obsesses about more than airplanes is Lego. (Btw, did you know that the plural form of Lego is Lego?) We're enrolling him as a member in the new Lego Brickmaster Club. I don't know if this is a good thing or not. Alan has said that we need to sign him up for the Lego 12-step program instead. "Hi, I'm Jonathan. I'm addicted to Lego."

I'm trying to come up with a little birthday poem. For some reason, it sounds Seuss-ish.

Hip, hip, hooray!
It's your birthday today!
Lots of Lego wishes
are being sent your way.

Our gift from heaven;
Today you are seven!
Was it only yesterday
when you weighed just eleven?

(pounds, that is.)

You're growing too fast,
But we're having a blast!
May your love for the Lord,
Jonathan, last and last.

Okay, so I'm not Emily Dickinson. At least I ended it on a spiritual note.
