As a surprise, we're waking up super early Saturday morning and taking him to the Miramar Air Show. I don't know who will be more excited, Jonathan or Alan. The rest of us will try to keep up. Do we need to bring ear plugs?
The only thing Jonathan obsesses about more than airplanes is Lego. (Btw, did you know that the plural form of Lego is Lego?) We're enrolling him as a member in the new Lego Brickmaster Club. I don't know if this is a good thing or not. Alan has said that we need to sign him up for the Lego 12-step program instead. "Hi, I'm Jonathan. I'm addicted to Lego."
(Proud mama note: Jonathan saw a space shuttle in the Lego catalog and decided to design his own. The photo doesn't show the movable doors which reveal the engine, robotic arms and retractable landing gear.)
I'm trying to come up with a little birthday poem. For some reason, it sounds Seuss-ish.
Draft of Jonathan's Birthday Poem
Hip, hip, hooray!
It's your birthday today!
Lots of Lego wishes
are being sent your way.
Our gift from heaven;
Today you are seven!
Was it only yesterday
when you weighed just eleven?
(pounds, that is.)
You're growing too fast,
But we're having a blast!
May your love for the Lord,
Jonathan, last and last.
Okay, so I'm not Emily Dickinson. At least I ended it on a spiritual note.
What do you think?
"Can a woman forget her nursing child, and not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely they may forget, yet I will not forget you. See, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands; your walls are continually before Me." Isaiah 49:15,16

Linda, if your son needs a 12-step program for Lego addiction, then mine better tag along. My 12 year old son is indeed addicted. He spends time making Star Trek space ships. I find them all over the house, and if one brick falls off, there's trouble. I'm wondering if there's a little engineer inside there.
ReplyDeleteHi Kim,
ReplyDeleteWe've gotten the engineer comment before, which is not surprising considering his dad, grandpa and uncle are all engineers of some sort.
Just before his 6th birthday, Jonathan told us that he felt God was calling him to be a pastor, but that he might also want to be an engineer. I've told him that God will use all of our gifts and abilities if we offer them to Him. We'll see how the Lord leads. :-)
OH, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JOHNATHON!!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the airshow, and the Lego... (I really feel like that needs and "s").
