Seeing with the Bible
"I love the Bible the way I love my eyes--not because my eyes are lovely, but because without them I can't see what's lovely. Without the Bible I could not see 'the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ'.* Without the Bible I could not know 'the unsearchable riches of Christ'.** Without the Bible I would not know that I am a great sinner and that Christ is a great Savior. I love the Bible because it gives the wisdom that leads to salvation, and shows me that this salvation is nothing less than seeing and savoring the glory of Christ forever. And then provides for me inexhaustible ways of seeing and knowing and enjoying Christ." ~ John Piper (*2 Corinthians 4:4; **Ephesians 3:8)
"Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night." Psalm 1:1
Linda, I love John Piper, and I love that quotation. That I cannot see what is true and beautiful without God's Word is much-needed reminder when I tend to wander off and think on my own. I appreciate so much your godly spirit! And I am enjoying your blog so much!
